Product Manager, Battery Materials TIMCAL (2005-2009) Work and life experience in Europe for 2½ years. Revised marketing plan, implemented new commercialisation strategy and improved market share in materials for Li-ion battery. Identified new products and new applications, increased market share of Timcal in Battery materials, and explored and developed new battery markets in new geographical areas
Technical consultant (2004) Initiated and completed six product and process improvement contracts in battery-grade zinc powder and electro-metallurgical processes world-wide.
Senior Scientist HERA (2003) Initiated and directed several development projects for new hydrogen storage materials. Established a new program and project management, and managed intellectual property of HERA Installed and set up new materials characterisation methods and techniques and evaluated a new Ni-hydrogen battery technology. Supervised the chemical hydride joint project conducted at INRS Matιriaux in Varennes.
Technical team Leader Noranda (1999-2002) Managed and performed appraisals and hiring, and defined development, training and succession plans for three technical teams of about 10 professionals over four years. Coached young technicians and scientists. Revised and reoriented Zinc, Copper and Silver Electrometallurgy program, projects and teams. Initiated the first project in magnesium electrometallurgy at Noranda.
Principal Scientist Noranda (1989-2002) Achieved successful start-up of battery-grade zinc powder plant and qualification of materials by three major battery companies. Renewed the battery-grade zinc powder plant and business in 1997 by optimising new products and new operating procedures. Developed zinc alloys powder and anode for primary mercury-free and secondary alkaline Zn-MnO2 cell and maintained strong technical relationship with battery companies for about 15 years. Developed, transferred from university, and implemented new zinc atomization technologies that have improved the competitive position of the battery-grade zinc powder plant. Transferred new technology and provided support to electrogalvanizing groups using zinc shots dissolution reactor. Directed and defined R&D program and conducted projects in magnesium, zinc, copper and silver electrometallurgy. Actively participated in several Six Sigma projects and completed a major Six Sigma DFSS project in copper electrorefining that has been generating annual benefits of $3M to the copper business. Expert in batteries and battery materials, and metallic powder for several business units within Noranda.
