The ECS Electrochemical Energy Summit (E2S) brings together policy makers and researchers to educate about the critical issues of energy needs and the pivotal research in electrochemical energy that can address societal needs. The Summit facilitates interactions between policy makers and researchers through a variety of formats: keynote presentations, panel discussions, poster sessions, demonstrations, workshops, and associated social events and receptions.

The 2018 summit discussed how increasing energy demands, environmental impacts, and aging infrastructure are driving forces for technological advancements to address societal needs. The demand for energy storage is increasing due to its use in electronics and transportation, and from the increased implementation of renewable energy. Applying Electrochemistry to Complex Global Challenges

In its first Science for Solving Society’s Problems Challenge, ECS partnered with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to leverage the brainpower of the many scientists in electrochemistry and solid state science and technology that regularly attend ECS meetings.
