Electrochemical phenomena underpin a wide range of energy technologies. Electrochemical phenomena control the existence and movement of charge species in the bulk of, as well as across interfaces, between ionic, electronic, semiconductor, photonic, and dielectric materials. The widespread occurrence of these phenomena in energy technological devices and processes is the fundamental thrust of the Energy Technology Division. The mission of the Energy Technology Division (ETD) is to encourage and stimulate research and development on new and existing technologies that will improve efficiency, reduce energy use, lower costs, and result in a cleaner environment.
