More Open Access from ECS

Paywall comes down from October 24-30

ECS participates in its seventh International Open Access Week from October 24-30, bringing down the paywall to over 171,000 journal and magazine articles and meeting abstracts. The ECS Digital Library on IOPscience is free and accessible to everyone that week. SPARC, the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition, organizes the annual global event to focus attention and inspire momentum toward the open sharing of knowledge.

ECS is set to participate in its sixth
 International Open Access Week, an annual event organized by SPARC, the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition. From October 25-31, ECS will take down the paywall to the entire ECS Digital Library, making over 165,000 scientific articles and abstracts free and accessible to everyone.

This year’s theme, “It Matters How We Open Knowledge: Building Structural Equity,” supports ECS’s long-term vision of Free the Science by providing access to all in order to further advance the research—and echoes the Society’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in scholarly publication. The research published in ECS’s publications directly addresses the sustainability of the planet. Electrochemistry and solid state science continue to hold the keys to innovation in renewable energy, biomedical applications, water and sanitation, communications, transportation, technology, infrastructure, and beyond. ECS is celebrating International Open Access Week by giving the world a preview of what complete open access to peer-reviewed scientific research will look like. This year’s theme is “Designing Equitable Foundations for Open Knowledge.” ECS is taking down the paywall October 22-28 from the entire ECS Digital Library, making over 141,000 scientific articles and abstracts free and accessible to everyone.

This is the fourth consecutive year ECS will take down its paywalls during Open Access Week, an annual event organized by SPARC, the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition. Eliminating the paywall during Open Access Week allows ECS to give the world a preview of the potential of its Free the Science initiative.

Free the Science is ECS’s move toward a future that embraces open science to further advance research in our field. This is a long-term vision for transformative change in the traditional models of communicating scholarly research. ECS last opened its digital library in April 2018 for the second Free the Science Week.

ECS shows its vision for the future of academic publishing

Eliminating the paywall during Open Access Week allows ECS to give the world a preview of the potential of its Free the Science initiative.
