Program webinar at 1500h ET on November 30, 2022 

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced it is accepting proposals for the 2023 DOE Office of Science Early Career Research Program to support the research of outstanding scientists early in their careers. The program will support over 80 early career researchers for five years at U.S. academic institutions, DOE national laboratories, and Office of Science user facilities.

Symposium focus: Microfluidics as a means to develop an inkjet printhead emerged in the 1980s. Soon the electrical and eventually electrochemical component of the controlled transport, where surface forces dominate volumetric forces, became apparent. The first article related to microfluidics channel restriction in the Journal of The Electrochemical Society was published in 2004 (Polk et al. 151 [2004] C559). Since then, microfluidics has been a regular topic of ECS meeting presentations.

The Board on Chemical Sciences and Technology (BCST) is holding its fall board meeting on November 8, 2022, from 1400-1700h EST. You are invited to join the public portion of this meeting on alternative chemistries for advanced batteries. In addition to a project introduction, there will also be several presentations on the circular economy for energy materials, critical materials for the clean energy transition, and opportunities for chemistry in energy storage for climate change. Additionally, there will be discussions between BCST and the various presenters speaking during the meeting.

ECS Job Opening: Programs Specialist

Reports to: Director of Community Engagement                                               
Classification: Full-Time Exempt

MAJOR FUNCTION

Responsible for the support and development of community engagement programs and execution of other various ECS programs and activities. Facilitates growth of the Society’s educational programming and activities to enhance continuing education offerings. Coordinates participation and execution of section and student chapter programs, student membership program, and student and section engagement throughout the Society. Promotes and increases engagement in outreach and professional development services like the ECS Career Center. Serves as staff liaison for section and student chapter relations, and works closely with staff and volunteer leaders to ensure that these relationships support the Society’s goals and objectives.
