Focus Issue on Electrochemical Innovations

A new ECS Advances (ECSA) focus issue titled Electrochemical Innovations is planned in connection with the  Z02Celebrating Electrochemical and Solid-State Science Innovations symposium at the 250th ECS Meeting in Calgary, Canada, from October 25–29, 2026. The issue aims to encourage publications emphasizing novel scientific developments in electrochemistry and the translation of scientific discoveries across the “valley of death” into commercial processes and products. This initiative aligns with The Electrochemical Society (ECS)’s vision to accelerate scientific discovery, advance theory, encourage research, promote technology, and accelerate innovation in electrochemical and solid-state science for the public benefit.

Manuscripts that address electrochemical innovations or novel developments in cell designs, systems, reactions, methods, diagnostics, or mechanistic understanding, rather than routine or incremental advances, across all areas of electrochemical and solid state science and engineering are welcomed. Submissions from all disciplines and geographic regions are encouraged, with particular emphasis on student participation. Presentation at the 250th ECS Meeting Z02 symposium is not required for submission to this focus issue.

Articles discussing the successful translation of noteworthy electrochemical innovations toward technology maturation by scientists, engineers, technocrats, and entrepreneurs in academics, national labs, and industry are also invited.

Submitted manuscripts should provide detailed descriptions of the methods, processes, materials, results, and discussions in a manner consistent with a standard scientific journal article, while ensuring that protection of intellectual property does not compromise the manuscript’s educational value.

The ECSA: Focus Issue on Electrochemical Innovations welcomes submissions to all topical interest areas. Follow this link for more on scope and topical interest areas.

Additional requirements
  • Graphical abstracts are mandatory for submissions to ECS Advances.
  • ORCID iDs are required for all accepted papers and included in article metadata. All authors listed on a manuscript submission including the Submitting/Corresponding Author and all coauthors must have a valid account in the ECS ScholarOne Manuscripts submission system with a linked, valid ORCID iD.
  • Corresponding authorsof an article are the members of the author team who submit the original manuscript and submission form to the journal for consideration. These individuals are the primary points of contact for the journal, submit the articles on behalf of the entire author team, and confirm all certifying and attesting statements in the submission form. The corresponding authors are the single individuals responsible for all corresponding author duties. The corresponding authors cannot be changed once the articles have been formally submitted.

Accepting submissions: September 1, 2026 | Submission deadline: December 31, 2026
