Symposium focus: The purpose of this symposium is to bring together researchers investigating interactions between temperature and battery behavior at a range of length scales, time scales, and severity. Batteries generate heat nonlinearly during charge and discharge, requiring the need for thermal management or heat rejection. Further, growing interest in extreme conditions, like low temperature environments or fast charging, exacerbate self-heating behaviors, drawing attention to local and global temperature variations. The complex and stochastic electrochemical phenomenon of batteries, especially in Li-ion systems, demands fundamental understanding, instrumentation, and multi-physics modeling for informed thermal management design.
