Focus Issue: 2026 ECS Organic and Biological Electrochemistry Division Manuel M. Baizer Award

The Journal of The Electrochemical Society is publishing a focus issue in connection with the Advances in Organic and Biological Electrochemistry and Division Manuel M. Baizer Award symposium held at the  249th ECS Meeting in Seattle, WA, from May 24–28, 2026.

Manuel M. Baizer was a pioneer and visionary whose influence and insights into electrochemistry continue to permeate scientific thought. The foremost internationally recognized authority on organic electrosynthesis, Baizer’s research led to the successful industrial process of the production of adiponitrile by the electrolytic reductive coupling of acrylonitrile. Winners of the award have made outstanding achievements in the electrochemistry of organic and organometallic compounds, biological and bio-inspired systems, carbon-based polymers and biomass, and more.

This collection covers broad topical areas of the electrochemistry of organic and organometallic compounds, biological and bio-inspired systems, carbon-based polymers and biomass research. The topics may be fundamental or applied but cannot include pure physical electrochemistry or the development of new electroanalytical methods.

The Journal of The Electrochemical Society (JES) invites researchers to submit articles to the journal’s Organic and Bioelectrochemistry; Physical and Analytical Electrochemistry, Electrocatalysis, and Photoelectrochemistry; and Sensors topical interest areas.

Additional requirements

  • Graphical abstracts are mandatory for submissions to JES.
  • ORCID iDs are required for all accepted papers and included in article metadata. All authors listed on a manuscript submission including the Submitting/Corresponding Author and all coauthors must have a valid account in the ECS ScholarOne Manuscripts submission system with a linked, valid ORCID iD.
  • Corresponding Authors are the members of an article’s author team who submit the original manuscript and submission form to the journal for consideration. They serve as the primary points of contact for the journal, submit the article on behalf of the entire author team, and confirm all certifying and attesting statements in the submission form. Corresponding Authors are the sole individuals responsible for fulfilling all Corresponding Author duties. The Corresponding Authors cannot be changed once the article has been formally submitted.

Accepting submissions: October 27, 2026 | Submission deadline: March 1, 2027

Articles are published in a standard issue of the journal as they are accepted. If selected at submission, accepted papers are published online in the ECS Digital Library on IOPscience within 24 hours of scheduling for publication. The version of record is published online within approximately 10 days of final acceptance.

Visit the ECS website for author submission instructions and requirements for each article type.

OPEN ACCESS – To take advantage of an article credit, the Submitting/Corresponding Author must be from an ECS Plus-affiliated institution or Institutional Member or be an ECS member in good standing.
