Nominate an ECS Fellow: Updated Criteria for 2027

Honoring Scientific Achievement and Service

The Electrochemical Society (ECS) has updated the ECS Fellow eligibility criteria to better reflect the breadth and evolving contributions that advance electrochemical and solid state science and technology.

The Society established the designation of Fellow in 1989 to recognize members whose outstanding individual contributions have advanced electrochemical and/or solid state science and technology. The distinction also honors members for their active involvement and service to the Society, establishing a lasting tradition of recognizing both technical achievement and dedication to the ECS community. As of 2026, nearly 430 members have been named Fellow of The Electrochemical Society.

Reflecting Today’s Electrochemical & Solid State Community

Following a recent review by the Honors & Awards Committee, the criteria have been refined and clarified. These Board-approved updates provide greater transparency, support equitable consideration of nominees, and recognize the diverse contributions that advance our fields and the Society.

Key elements of the updated criteria include:

  • At least 10 years of continuous ECS Membership;
  • At least three supporters must be ECS members;
  • Selection is based on both technical contributions and active involvement in Society activities.
2027 ECS Fellow Nominations Are Open

The updated eligibility criteria apply to the 2027 Fellow nomination cycle. Nominations are due by January 31, 2027. The Class of 2027 is announced in June 2027.

Review the Fellow eligibility criteria and nomination guidelines before submitting a nomination.

Nominate an outstanding scientist, engineer, or leader whose contributions are advancing electrochemical and solid state science and technology—and whose service is strengthening the ECS community.
