2020 Leadership Circle Award Winners

Since 2002, long-term ECS supporters and partners in electrochemistry and solid state science have been recognized through the Leadership Circle Awards. The awards are granted in the anniversary year an institutional member reaches a milestone level. Recipients receive a commemorative plaque and credit in ECS publications.

Gold Level – 25 years of institutional support

Panasonic

Founded in 1918, Panasonic launched its battery business with a dry cell battery in 1931. In 1994, the company initiated the mass production of Lithium-ion batteries (LIB) using graphite as anode—technology it pioneered. Panasonic became one of the most successful battery manufacturers in the world. Today, Panasonic is the global pioneer of Ni-Cd, lithium primary, and NiMH batteries. The company continues contributing to the evolution of electrochemistry as the path to improving battery performance for automotive, consumer, and industrial use.

Westlake

Westlake was founded in 1986 by T. T. Chao, a pioneer in the global petrochemical industry. Headquartered in Houston, TX, the company provides the building blocks for vital solutions—from packaging and healthcare products to automotive and consumer goods, to building and construction products. Westlake produces ethylene; polyethylene; propylene; styrene; chlor-alkali and derivative products; PVC suspension and specialty resins; PVC compounds; building products including pipe, fittings and specialty components, decking, roofing, siding, trim and molding, and window lineals; and PVC film.


Bronze Level – 5 years of institutional support

BASi

Founded in 1974, BASi® (Bioanalytical Systems, Inc.) has provided innovative analytical instrumentation to academic and industrial research, and the world’s leading drug development companies, for over 45 years. Their forte is meticulous design and manufacturing.
