The ECS University of Calgary Student Chapter invites current ECS Student Chapter members—and anyone interested in revitalizing or starting a chapter—to the ECS Student Chapter Roundtable during the 250th ECS Meeting in Calgary, Canada, on Tuesday, October 27, from 945–1030h MDT.
Share what’s working, swap ideas, and connect with fellow student leaders from across the ECS community. Come ready to talk about successful events and initiatives, growing engagement, launching new chapters, and supporting professional development. Designed to strengthen connections among ECS Student Chapters and spark future collaboration across institutions, the Roundtable is an opportunity to learn from one another, share experiences, and exchange ideas. Preregistration—online in advance or at Customer Service in 250 Registration—is required for this event.
Your hosts
The ECS University of Calgary Student Chapter has a long history of bringing students, researchers, and industry together. Established in 2011 as the second ECS Student Chapter in Canada, the chapter has organized technical workshops, research seminars, industry tours, and outreach activities that give students opportunities to explore electrochemical science beyond the classroom. In 2019, the chapter became the first Canadian recipient of the ECS Outstanding Student Chapter Award, recognized for its active technical programming, community outreach, and membership development. Today, the chapter continues that tradition by creating opportunities for students to engage with researchers and scientists from academia and industry while promoting electrochemistry and its applications to the broader community.
Meet the chapter’s Executive Committee members. Dr. Viola Birss, the chapter’s faculty advisor, is Professor of Chemistry at the University of Calgary, Scientific Director of CAESR-Tech (Calgary Advanced Energy Storage and Conversion Research Technologies), and Electrolysis Theme Co-Lead at the Hydrogen Production Technologies (HyPT) Global Research Center.
