IOP Publishing Partners with Editage

IOP Publishing (IOPP), the publishing partner of The Electrochemical Society, has become the first publisher to integrate its ScholarOne article submission system with the Editage Online System, allowing authors using Editage services to submit directly to IOPP.

“I am thrilled that our authors will benefit from these types of advances that IOP Publishing is making in their publishing operations. As a partner using ScholarOne, ECS authors engaging in Editage’s services can submit directly to our journals, which helps minimize the time spent in getting their manuscript into the editorial review process,” says Beth Craanen, Director of Publications.

Marc Gillett, head of publishing operations at IOPP, said, “We know that authors find entering manuscript information into multiple systems frustrating, and that they can spend up to 14 hours formatting a manuscript for submission. IOPP already allows format-free submissions to all its journals to reduce unnecessary administration for our authors. We developed the integration with Editage and Clarivate Analytics so that key information from the edited manuscript—such as the article title and author details—is automatically passed from Editage to ScholarOne, further reducing the administrative burden.”

“We also expect this development to support peer reviewers. Our research with reviewers highlighted the problem of papers being rejected due to the quality of the writing, rather than the quality of the science. Reviewers are under more pressure than ever to return reviewed manuscripts quickly. We expect this development to help reviewers focus on the science rather than the writing. This will benefit reviewers, authors, and the scientific community,” Gillett adds.

Editage’s Nikesh Gosalia, Senior Vice President, Global Academic & Publisher Relations, said, “We have been offering language editing and plagiarism and technical checks to IOPP authors since 2016. These services have proven very popular with their authors, with over 75 percent of them rating the service as ‘Outstanding’ in 2019.”

Gosalia adds, “Besides the responsiveness and high-quality guarantee of edited documents, owing to a powerful team of subject-matter specialists, native-English editors, and professional reviewers, we have been able to deliver every client order in just three to four business days. Similarly, this integration makes the process from manuscript preparation to journal submission a lot faster and smoother, and will usher in a paradigm shift in the way other publishers design their submission processes.”
