Abstract
The majority of cathode active materials (CAMs) used in Li-ion batteries today are supplied from China, creating commercial supply–chain risks including potential interruptions resulting from export restrictions and import tariffs. In addition, specifically, the U.S. market for Li-ion batteries used in defense applications is subject to sourcing restrictions under the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which requires primarily sourcing components from entities that are not Foreign Entities of Concern (FEOCs). This presentation discusses the CAM supply chain, including upstream precursor materials and raw material components, identifying sourcing options that contain no Chinese content and comply with NDAA requirements.
