Call for Nominations: JES Technical Editor, Battery and Energy Storage

Nomination deadline: January 31, 2026

The Journal of The Electrochemical Society (JES) invites nominations for the position of Technical Editor in the topical interest area (TIA) of Battery and Energy Storage.

On December 31, 2026, Dr. Doran Aurbach completes his 12-year term as Technical Editor for this important topic area. Under his leadership, the Battery and Energy Storage TIA has become the most active in JES—garnering the highest number of citations, submissions, and associate editors in the journals portfolio.

Recognizing the critical importance of this TIA to JES and the global electrochemical science community, the ECS Publications Subcommittee seeks a highly qualified and visionary individual to continue this legacy of excellence.

About the Battery and Energy Storage topical interest area

Areas of interest include theoretical and experimental aspects of batteries, electrochemical capacitors, and flow batteries. Specific topics encompass design, modeling, and testing; electrode structures and characterization—including charge storage materials, binders, additives, membranes, electrolytes, conductivity enhancers, and current collectors—as they relate to batteries and energy storage. Also of interest are issues that pertain to safety, such as the development and implementation of methods for safety assessment.

Qualifications

Self-nominations are invited from individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Eight or more years post-PhD;
  • Active publication record within the last five or more years in the Battery and Energy Storage TIA;
  • Editorial experience is preferred;
  • Demonstrated leadership, technical expertise, motivation, and an international reputation within the battery and/or electrochemical energy storage field.

Only complete nomination packages are considered. Incomplete submissions are not acknowledged.

Role and responsibilities

According to the JES Charter, Technical Editors are appointed by the Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with and confirmation by the Publications Subcommittee.

Each Technical Editor is responsible for the overall success of their topical interest area, including:

  • Ensuring the quality of published content;
  • Overseeing efficient and fair peer-review processes;
  • Promoting the highest standards of research integrity and ethics;
  • Supporting the journal’s impact and visibility within the scholarly community;
  • Providing leadership in synergizing the Battery and Energy Storage TIA with other JES TIAs and the ECS journal portfolio.

Technical Editors may be appointed for an initial term of 12 to 36 months and renewed terms of two to four years, up to a maximum of 12 years.

Appointment process

The appointment process for this position includes:

  1. Review of nominee applications by the Publications Subcommittee Ad Hoc Search Committee;
  2. Interviews with selected candidates;
  3. Formal appointment, which is subject to approval by the Technical Affairs Committee and subsequently the ECS Board of Directors.

This is a rigorous and multi-step process. Only those who are genuinely committed to seeing the process through to completion should nominate themselves.

Nomination process

Qualified individuals are encouraged to submit their nomination through the online form by January 31, 2026.
