The Z05 Symposium and Workshop takes place on Sunday and Monday, May 24–25, 2026, in Seattle, WA, during the 249th ECS Meeting. The symposium includes three expert panels from academia and industry, offering graduate students and postdocs valuable insights into career paths and professional development in the ever-evolving field of electrochemistry. Nobel laureate M. Stanley Whittingham is featured in the third panel.

New ECS Battery Division Award Honors Nobel Laureate M. Stanley Whittingham

The ECS Honors and Awards Program and the ECS Battery Division proudly announce the creation of the new ECS Battery Division M. Stanley Whittingham Mid-Career Award recognizing mid-career achievement and contributions to the field of electrochemical energy storage.
When the pandemic caused the cancellation of a PRiME 2020 event honoring his winning the Nobel prize, Dr. Whittingham requested that donations to the event be used for an award. The Battery Division Early M. Stanley Whittingham Mid-Career Award is partially funded through these donations. (more…)

A highlight of The Electrochemical Society’s record-breaking PRiME 2020 digital meeting was the live session honoring M. Stanley Whittingham and Akira Yoshino, long term ECS members and 2019 Nobel Chemistry Laureates. That same day—October 7, 2020—the Royal Swedish Academy of Science announced that Emmanuelle Charpentier (Max Planck Unit for the Science of Pathogens, Berlin, Germany) and Jennifer A. Doudna (University of California, Berkeley, US) received the 2020 Nobel Chemistry Prize “for the development of a method for genome editing.” (more…)
