Jie Xiao, ECS Battery Division Secretary, is taking the lead on chartering an ECS Pacific Northwest Division and requests the support of ECS members in Washington and Oregon. With so many well-established and startup companies, research-intensive universities, and a large national lab located in Washington and Oregon, it is timely to form an ECS Pacific Northwest Section.
Reserve your spot! The Canada Section of The Electrochemical Society will hold its Annual General Meeting by Zoom video conference at 1300h (EDT) on July 7, 2020. All ECS Canada Section members are invited to attend. Advanced registration is required.
Dear ECS Detroit Section Members and Colleagues,
The safety of our members and communities remains ECS-Detroit’s overriding priority. As a way to increase precautionary health measures as the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak continues to evolve and spread globally, including within the United States, The Electrochemical Society Detroit Section has decided to cancel the March meeting on Wednesday, March 11.
We are closely monitoring the situation and will update you with the information about April Meeting.
We appreciate your interests and understanding. Thank you for your continuous support.
The XXXIV National Congress of the Mexican Society of Electrochemistry (SMEQ) and 12th Meeting of the ECS Mexico Section—held this June in Santiago de Querétaro, Mexico—honored Luis Manuel Alvarez Cerda for his work, titled, “Effect of the Polymerization Synthesis Temperature on the Hydrophilic/Hydrophobic Balance in Polyaniline Deposits (PANI) on an Anion Exchange Membrane.”
Each year, SMEQ hosts a poster session which awards prizes by degree (bachelor’s/master’s/doctorate). Alvarez took home the main prize for the best doctorate poster, which includes the opportunity to present at a future ECS biannual meeting.
Luis Manuel Alvarez Cerda, chemist since 2005, received his master’s degree in chemistry in 2007. In 2008, the chemistry company Igcar de México/Produquímicos Industriales hired Luis Alvarez to work in the L&D department where he developed more than 30 new products and more than 50 new raw materials until 2017.
The 2017 ECS Twin Cities Section Symposium will take place Friday, April 7 in Saint Paul, MN. Attendance is free and includes talks, lunch, and the Innovation Center Tour showing hundreds of 3M technologies, and a poster session.

Electrochemically Silent Films on Electrodes – Means and Methods
Electrochemically inert films on electrodes alter properties of transport, selectivity, and kinetics to enable new devices and measurement methods. Examples include: density gradient polymers, which establish near steady state transport to the electrode surface and modification of Nafion® with triflate ligands in common organic solvents to enable voltammetry of lanthanide species.
After the few years of dormancy, the New England Section of ECS is looking to engaged members in the region.
Section officers invite members wanting to actively participate in local section functions, including suggesting speakers and venues for programming, to contact Prof. Sanjeev Mukerjee, Northeastern University, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
First section meeting is slated for late spring 2016. More information will be distributed to section members.
To updated your section membership, contact email@example.com.
