ECST Editor Instructions

Also available in PDF.

Introduction
ECS Transactions (ESCT) is an online database publication for content presented at ECS meetings and ECSsponsored meetings. Manuscripts are submitted through an online system. The collections of these papers serve as the “proceedings” of their respective symposia, and will be available for sale as such; individual papers will also be available for sale. Papers will be published in volumes (each volume corresponding to one meeting or conference) and issues (each issue corresponding to an individual symposium or conference). Papers in ECS Transactions are not considered by the Society to be peer-reviewed, and thus they may be submitted to the Journal of The Electrochemical Society or to Electrochemical and Solid-State Letters within six months of the symposium, for consideration via the peer-review process of those journals.

Guidelines—Editors of issues of ECS Transactions (ECST) MUST read the general “ECST Guidelines” to understand how this publication works, as well as for information about their obligations as an editor.
Submission System—The ECST submission system will provide step-by-step instructions for authors for the submission of papers; and for editors for the review of papers and the preparation of an issue.
Deadlines—Once the ECST submission system has been opened (see the “Schedules” on the ECST Web page), the system will automatically send an e-mail to all organizers, editors, and presenters from the relevant meeting. The letter will include the deadline for submission (approximately four weeks from the time the system opens to authors), and a link to the manuscript preparation instructions. Note that there are two sets of deadlines: one set for content being published in time for the meeting; and another set for content being published after the meeting. Also note that not all issues of ECST will be published as case-bound books.
Review—The degree of review of the papers in a volume is at the discretion of the symposium or conference, and is the responsibility of the senior editor(s).
Front Matter—The ECST issue editor will use the ECST submission system to build a Table of Contents, check the title of the issue, check the editors, etc. The Society staff will check all the work that has been done in the system before the issue is released for publication. Editors will be able to submit a “Preface” file, which should include any acknowledgments. The preparation of indices—both Subject and Author—will be facilitated by the ECST submission system.
Manuscript Preparation—Regardless of whether or not an issue is being published as an online-only issue or as a first-run, case-bound book, all manuscripts should be prepared according to the “ECST Instructions for Authors” on the ECST Web pages.
Page Limits—The recommended page limits for manuscripts are: 15 pages for invited papers and 12 pages for contributed papers. These limits include references, tables, and figures.
Publication—Once an issue has been completed, it will be published in ECS Transactions on the ECS Digital Library platform. No changes may be made to individual papers once they have been published. Content intended to be published in time for the meeting will be embargoed until the first day of the meeting. This ensures a consistent, dependable “date of first publication,” which is important to authors submitting patent applications.
