pdf First Announcement and Call for Papers
The lithium battery field continues its rapid growth since 1982, when the first International Meeting on Lithium Batteries (IMLB-1) was held in Rome. The increasing commercialization of rechargeable lithium batteries in the consumer electronics market, and the extension of their use for electric/hybrid vehicle applications, has dramatically increased the academic and industrial interest in this exciting field. This interest is reflected in the continuously growing participation in the IMLB, which in the case of IMLB-11 exceeded 600. The scientific and technological innovations in lithium batteries continue, and IMLB-12 should be another ideal forum for reporting and discussing them. The 12th IMLB offers another superb opportunity which should not be missed by anyone in the field. The organizing committee and the supporting scientific organizations invite you to participate in IMLB-12, which will be held in Nara city, Japan in June 2004. The established format of the meeting will be continued with plenary and invited speakers highlighting key advances in the field. Dedicated poster sessions with time for presentation and ample discussion will ensure that all contributed papers are given their proper exposure. Contributed papers for the poster sessions are welcome and can be related to primary and secondary lithium batteries or their forming materials. All presentations will be in English.
The following sessions will be included in the conference program:

Nara was the East End of the Silk Road and had been the glorious capital,
"like a fragrant flower in full bloom," as an ancient poet once
described it. Nara was the cradle of the great Japanese arts and the essence
of culture in the Tempyo Period, ca. 1,300 years ago. The old, world-famous temples and shrines of the province
of Yamato (presently Nara Prefecture) have handed down to us their precious
history. Among others, the cathedrals of Todaiji, Kofukuji, Yakushiji,
Toshodaiji and the Kasuga Grand Shrine are settings where one can encounter
the rich, elegant ambience of the Tempyo Culture. As you go through the
corridors, and glance at the tiled roofs of these cathedrals, the Tempyo
Culture will make you forget all about time and space, and will whisper
to you about the old days of well over a thousand years as though they
were yesterday. The blend of natural beauty and the wide range of meeting
facilities make Nara an outstanding venue for the IMLB-12 meeting.
